| Kokusai Kohki is located in the ancient Japanese capitol of Kyoto, a city of temples, gardens and "tradition". Kyoto is located in the center of Japan`s big island, Honshu (which means "mainland"). We are about a 3~4 hour Bullet Train ride from "The Big Sushi" of Tokyo, about 350 miles west of that giant metropolis. | ||||
From Tokyo, catch the Shinkansen (Bullet Train) at Tokyo Station. There are lots of these here so be sure to board either the Hikari Super-Express or the Nozomi Super-Duper Express of the Sanyo Shinkansen Line to arrive in Kyoto in minimum time and hassle. The Hikari and Nozomi Sanyo Shinkansen trains all head west and make their second stop in Kyoto from Tokyo. (Do NOT board the slow poke Kodama as it stops at every darn station on the way. Also, do NOT board the Tohoku Shinkansen or the Shin-estu Shinkansen lines as these do not go to Kyoto. The Shinkansen is expensive but well worth it for its incredible speed and ease of arrival. It does not seem you are traveling at 120 mph until you pass a train going the other way. Pretty exciting at first, though I usually fall asleep about 20 minutes into the trip... In about 3 hours or so, you will arrive at Kyoto Station and an announcement will be made in English that your arrival is imminent. See below for furthur directions after arrival at Kyoto Station. |

From Osaka`s Kansai International Airport, take the Japan Railways (JR) "Haruka" train which departs from the terminal across the street from the exit of the Kansai Airport proper. You can go inside the glassed-in office and buy your ticket there for about \2,800 yen or pay the same price at the ticket machine. The ticket machine has a button to press for an English interface so buying your ticket should be a simpler matter. But if you have any problems, there are people around who can help you in English (usually). You can choose between non-reserved and reserved seats on the Haruka but as the train is rarely full, I usually get an unreserved seat and save a few hundred yen. The Haruka train arrives at Kyoto Station in 1 hour 10 minutes and terminates there so there`s no risk of overshooting your destination. |

From Kyoto Station, flag one of the numerous and immaculate taxis parked anywhere in the area and tell the driver to take you to "Hankyu Kami Katsura Station" (in Japanese, you could say, "Hankyu Kami Katsura eki ei itte kudasai"). Japanese taxis are expensive but 99% are very professional and courteous and will take the shortest way to their destinations. You will arrive in about 20 minutes at a cost of about 3,000 yen give or take. From Hankyu Kami Katsura Station, call us from the green pay phone right in front of the tiny station and we will come pick you up in about 5 minutes. If you need change for the call, the attendant at the train station entrance can make change for you. |

To our shop from Tokyo takes about 5 to 6 hours, and from Kansai Airport about 3 to 4 hours, including the taxi ride from Kyoto Station. To call us within Japan, dial 075-394-2625. Once inside Kyoto city, drop the area code and dial only 394-2625. |
